Muslim father of former Guatanamo detainee with friend in UK
Pakistani-British man Azmat Begg (left), 60, talks to a long-time friend in a clothes store in Birmingham city, central England. ....The former banker is the father of Moazzam Begg, 36, held for three years in the U.S. prison camp at Guantanamo Bay. Begg was released without charge in January 2005. ....Washington alleges Moazzam Begg - among hundreds it held without trial after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks - was trained in explosives at an al-Qaeda camp. Begg was arrested in Pakistan, after visiting Afghanistan.....But the father and his lawyer say Begg, who ran a religious bookshop in Birmingham, was innocent and was scarred after being tortured while in U.S. custody...The elder Begg is one of the first immigrants to arrive from Pakistan. He came to the UK in the 1950s to work...
