Daily Life in Tuva Republic, Russia
Orlan, drunk on vodka on his 35th birthday, falls out of his Lada car in the taiga outside the Tuva Republic capital of Kyzyl. Orlan (Tuvans normally use just one name) owns about 50 sheep, goats and milking cows. Like many other animal herders in the republic, Orlan prefers traditional farming methods but finds it difficult to compete in modern society. Alcoholism is rife in the region.
