Physicist Igor Bolshinsky and project leader Kelly Cummins inspect a cask containing highly enriched uranium at the Institute of Nuclear Physics in Almaty, Kazakhstan. .Bolshinsky is pointing at an IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) seal that verifies the authenticity of the nuclear shipment. The removal of Kazakhstan's highly enriched uranium (HEU) is part of the U.S. Global Threat Reduction Initiative (GTRI), where Bolshinsky and Cummin work, that tries to secure nuclear material around the world to prevent their misuse by terrorists and rogue states.
