Single child in a four-generation family

Shanghai-born KONG Ni, 5, visits the apartment of her great-grandparents in the same city. Kong is the only forth-generation descendant of LU Jinfu, 89. LU and his wife bore three children in the 1950s, each of them has one child under China's one-child policy that came into effect in the late 1970s. Among the three people in this third generation, only one has a child, this being Kong Ni.
