World’s largest gas field found near derelict Arctic Russian village

Sunken boats and abandoned houses lay rotting by an icy bay in Teriberka, a former prosperous fish-processing community waiting for an economic boom through gas production.

Teriberka rose to international fame in the last decade after Gazprom engineers discovered one of the largest gas fields off its shore.

International oil and gas companies rushed to bid for rights to develop the Shtokman gas field with Gazprom.

However, the project has been put on ice after since the collapse of the gas prices.
